I have a Word Press web site hosted by one of the popular providers. What should I backup so I can recover the site no matter what could happen?
There are many plugins to help you do this. Like BackupW and a Dropbox option. Also your hosting company can usually provide a backup service but normally this is an extra charge.
But you can also do this yourself. You will need to set up a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) option on your web site, then get a good FTP program. There are many free products. I use CuteFTP. Then access your web site and download the following folders. Under public_html, the wp-content folder is a must. Also the wp-config.php, robots.txt, nginx.conf, .htaccess, .htpasswd and favicon.ico from root if it is not included in backup. There may be more so check our blog for the details.
